New World Symphony

Established in 1987, the New World Symphony (NWS) – dubbed “America’s Orchestral Academy” – is a graduate orchestral program that prepares musicians from distinguished music programs for future leadership in professional orchestras and ensembles. Co-founded by Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas and Lin and Ted Arison, and led by Michael Tilson Thomas, NWS is made up of a group of fellowship musicians. This program gives these musicians in-depth exposure to traditional and modern repertoire, and lets them work with some of the top artists and conductors from around the world. In addition to its sold-out concerts, New World Symphony even offers virtual learning experiences and community engagement projects, emphasizing the power of education for musicians of all ages.

NWS offers three-year fellowships, where the programme offers a wide range of performance and educational opportunities in both domestic and international venues. The training also includes mock auditions, financial management, donor and media relations, as well as opportunities for teaching in local schools.

The New World Symphony presents a season of concerts from September to May at the 756-seat concert hall of the New World Center.  Performances include full-orchestra concerts, a chamber music series, a new music series, percussion consort series, small ensemble concerts, a family series, and special festivals and recitals.

Lincoln Road Mall

Stroll down South Beach’s crown jewel, Lincoln Road Mall, at any time of day or night — and there’s always something exciting happening. The ten-block mecca of shopping, dining and entertainment is constantly bustling with a mix of locals and tourists, which creates an unmistakable energy and an ultimate spot for people-watching.

Restaurants, cafés and bars on the pedestrian-friendly promenade offer prime sidewalk seating, ripe for catching a constant parade of local characters, models, street performers, and dogs dressed as well (if not better) than their owners. Don’t be surprised if you see an eclectic local march past with a bird on their shoulder or even a harmless snake around their neck!

Wondering how to dress? Lincoln is a place with a “come-as-you-are” attitude, with people decked out in everything from bathing suits (Lincoln is conveniently located to the beach) to cocktail attire.

The Lincoln Road Mall is just a 10 minute walk down Washington Ave from ArtéCity Park.

Bass Art Museum

The Bass returned to South Beach’s Collins Park after a two-year, $12 million renovation in 2017. The Bass, Miami Beach’s longtime contemporary art museum, has re-opened after a two-year, $12 million renovation. Set inside a landmark Art Deco building from the 1930s on the National Register of Historic Places, it was originally the Miami Beach Public Library & Art Center designed by Russell Pancoast. The museum opened in 1964 thanks to a donation from the private collection of John and Johanna Bass to the City of Miami Beach. The latest renovations by architects Arata Isozaki and David Gauld expand the building’s internal structure to create nearly 50 percent more programmable space while maintaining the building’s exterior footprint.

With 12,800-square-feet of exhibition space, the renovated Bass presents four new galleries for a total of eight. Six galleries are located on the first floor and two on the second. They will display temporary exhibitions, artist projects and works from the permanent collection. The museum will boast a new café and museum shop, as well as updates to the courtyard, restrooms, stairways and elevators. There’s a new 5,200-square-foot Creativity Center wing designated for educational programming. This full-service wing boasts two classrooms, a multimedia lab, outdoor terrace, as well as administrative offices and a reception lobby. When The Bass reopens in October, it will be greeted with great fanfare by delighted patrons eager for this Miami Beach institution to take its place once again in South Beach’s beautiful Collins Park.

Miami Beach Golf Course

Originally opened in 1923, Miami Beach golf club was given an $11 million face-lift and reopened in 2002. The result is a championship layout masterfully designed by world-renowned architect Arthur Hills. The course sits quietly nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, minutes from South Beach and scores of world-class hotels, restaurants.

When you first play this course, you may think it has been designed exclusively for long hitters. Don't worry -- many holes are dogleg designs that allow you to bite off a good portion of the distance with good tee shots. Greens are well bunkered and elevated.

Several beautiful and strategically placed lakes enhance the charm of the course.
The once tired and under-utilized Bayshore has now become the elegant and highly regarded Miami Beach Golf Club.
